Be a God Pleaser: Day 2, Praying Galations
from "Pray Your Way Through The Scriptures!" by Adam Houge -
Be a God-Pleaser
“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10
Lord, give me a heart that’s solely after You. I choose to live for You and not for this world. For I know that if my concerns are on this present life, I will seek to please men through fear to save myself from trials and persecution. Instead, I choose to be Your bondservant, not giving into the pressures of the world around me but, rather, walking uprightly with you—because Your love is better than this life.
Some teach that you should please men to save their souls. However, God teaches us to show them, through His untainted love, how far apart they are from Him, that they may understand their need for Him. He also commands us to remain unblemished, or unspotted, from the world.
Other occasions when we may please men are at the workplace. Fear of losing our jobs leads us to please the boss overly in ways that God would not call us to do. Sometimes we fear persecution and hide a little bit of the light for fear of blinding the unbeliever. Yet God calls us to trust in Him and assures us that those who do will be taken care of by Him.
As we also read, “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe.” Proverbs 29:25 ESV
So the question is this: How have you been shining your light today? Be a beacon for Jesus and commit yourself to practicing that today as God leads you. Examine yourself to see if maybe you have strayed a little from being that light you’re called to be and if you must, then, change at this time.
